Lower Dolpo Trek (21 days)

Dolpo is also called “Ba Yul” or the Hidden valley is a land of mystery, scenery and peace. Surrounded by Dhaulagiri and Tibet from south and north, the Dolpo region is the natural embodiment of high passes, rare flora and fauna and sweeping vistas. The medicinal plant, Yarchagumba (Coerdiopsis sinensis) a type of wild mushroom is found in abundance in this region. Extracts from Yarchagumba is believed to significantly improve health and fitness. It is a rain shadow area and was opened in 1991 for trekking. The whole trekking areas in this region stretches through and around Arun River whose origin dates back to prehistoric period. The Arun valley is one of the most beautiful regions to trek in Nepal.

Dolpo is protected by Shey-Phoksundo National Park. It lies to the north of the Dhaulagiri range bordering the Tibetan Plateau. Here one can find a well-preserved eco-system of plants and wildlife, including the blue sheep and the elusive snow leopard. The view of Kanjiroba peak, Phoksumdo Lake, and the Dhauligiri massif is one of the most rewarding moments of this trek. A visit to the Phoksundo Gompa – dedicated to the ancient Bonpo religion, local to Dolpo and Tibet, is a memorable experience.

The Lower Dolpo trek offers opportunities to visit ancient villages, high passes, beautiful Lakes, isolated Buddhist monasteries and also to experience the vast array of wildlife inhabiting the region, including Blue sheep, Mountain Goat, Jackal, Wolf and the legendary Snow Leopard. The Lower Dolpo is home to Thakuri, Chhetri and Brahmin.

Detail Itinerary of Lower Dolpo trek:

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu International Airport. Transfer to the hotel and stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: City sightseeing in and around Kathmandu valley (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur & Patan).Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj.

Day 04: Fly to Jumla (2370m) and trek from Jumla to Gothi chaur (2700m).

Day 05: Trek from Gothi Chaur to Naphukana (3080m).

Day 06: Trek from Naphukana to Chaurikot (3060m).

Day 07: Trek from Chaurikot to Bheri riverside (2610m).

Day 08: Trek from Bheri riverside to Garpung khola (2900m).

Day 09: Trek from Garpung Khola to Kagmara (3500m).
 
Day 10: Trek from Kagmara to Kagmara phedi (4000m).

Day 11: Cross Kagmara La (5115m).

Day 12: Trek to Pungmo.

Day 13: Trek from Pungmo to Phoksumdo Lake.

Day 14: At Phoksumdo Lake.

Day 15: Trek from Phoksundo Lake to Baga La phedi.

Day 16: Cross Baga La (5090m) and trek to Numa La phedi (4800m).

Day 17: Cross Numa La (5360m) and trek to Do (4100m).
 
Day 18: At Do. Today is a rest day at Do which is the largest settlement in Tarap and has several gompas.

Day 19: Trek from Do to Lahini (3560m).

Day 20: Trek from Lahini to Tarakot (2600m).

Day 19: Trek from Tarakot to Dunai (2100m).

Day 20: Trek from Dunai to Juphal (2500m).

Day 21: Fly from Juphal to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

Day 22: Recreation & shopping day in Kathmandu. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 23: Transfer to the Airport for final departure (Fly out from Kathmandu).
